Quick Recipes and Home Tips

Here are some tips and housecleaning tricks - some of which I am sure you've heard. It is always good to refresh your memory.

1. To remove gum from leather, put a dab of peanut butter on the gum. In just a bit, the gum will lift right off.

2. Use a dryer softener sheet to wipe your television screen to remove static electricity.

3. Baking soda mixed with ground cinnamon or cloves makes a great carpet freshener.

4. To keep fresh flowers alive longer, they need sugar for nourishment and an acidic ingredient like lemon-lime soda or aspirin which allows faster water absorption. A drop of bleach prevents bacteria.

5. Your linens can be whitened on the stove with lemons. Fill a pot with water and a few slices of lemon - bring to a boil. Turn off heat, add linen and let soak for an hour or so. Then launder as usual.

7. Wax can easily be removed from your candle holders by placing them in the freezer. The wax will shrink in a few hours and can easily be popped out.

8. Your mirrors will shine with no streaking if you spray the cloth rather than the surface. Wipe the mirror down then polish immediately with another clean dry cloth. An old t-shirt works very well.
