In 1999, Hearthstone Advisers, a national firm that provides
financing to home builders, and Builder Magazine established
the Hearthstone Builder Lifetime Public Service Award to pay
tribute to builders who improve their communities through
their dedication to charitable work. This past January, during
the National Association of Homebuilders annual convention
in Orlando, Fl., Elite Homes President Joe Pusateri received
one of the two Hearthstone awards given for 2005. Thanks to
this year’s 45 Hearthstone sponsors, the award came
with a check for $100,000 to be given to charities of his
choice. This will allow Joe to continue to help many local
charities.
This prestigious national award is open to all builders and
developers. In order to be considered for the award, the builder
must submit their portfolio of charitable activities they
have initiated during their lifetime. The judges, who are
past recipients of the Hearthstone Awards, were asked to measure
the nominees’ charitable activities against these six
criteria:
•
Lifetime commitment
•
Depth of commitment
• Significance of contribution
• Inspiration value
• Significance of charity
•
Ability of charities to use the reward
Joe’s charitable work over the years has included:
The Family Place, The Evergreen Foundation, The Louisville
Orchestra, Metro United Way, Salvation Army, Boy Scouts, University
of Louisville, Habitat for Humanity, Channel 15 Public Television.
